Citation Generator

Create correct references and in-text citations in APA 7, MLA 9, Harvard and Chicago — for the seven source types you meet most often.

Build a reference

Pick a style and a source type. The fields change to match, and your reference list is sorted alphabetically for you.

Everything is generated in your browser. Use “Add to reference list” to collect several sources, then copy or download the whole list.

How casing is handled. APA and Harvard use sentence case for article, chapter, book and page titles; MLA and Chicago use title case. The tool applies those rules automatically but preserves acronyms and words containing capital letters, and it keeps words in the built-in proper-noun list (country, language, month and similar names). If a title contains a proper noun it does not recognise, edit the field to fix the capitalisation, or type the word in the form you want and re-add the source.

Switching style. Changing the style re-formats every source already in your list — the underlying fields are kept.
